UPS Freight has reduced transit times on nearly 1,000 traffic lanes originating in metropolitan areas in 11 states in the U.S. Southwest and Southeast, to points throughout the country. The company has cut transit by one or two days from points in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. The changes are being made without any increase in shipping rates, UPS said. The latest cuts follow improvements in 2007 in more than 8,000 lanes nationwide. They come on the heels of a new on-time performance guarantee by UPS, as well as newly integrated shipping and visibility technology. Similar network improvements will be phased in throughout other regions of the country later this year, the company said. Specific lane enhancements and updated time-in-transit maps can be viewed on ltl.upsfreight.com. Examples of the reductions include placing all of New England under a two-day delivery umbrella from Memphis, Tenn., and having shipments from Charlotte, N.C. reach destinations as far as Dallas, Texas and Columbia, Mo. in two days. UPS Freight has a fleet of some 29,000 tractors and trailers, with more than 215 service centers nationwide.
