The ideal flow-through warehouse may involve no value-added work, and no picking or putaway; things just come in and flow right back out. There are several types of flow-through warehouse, and Steve Banker, research director at ARC Advisory Group, discusses them. They include facilities that the retail industry uses for casing and shipping garments; cross-docking; and those where items that are to be used in production environments are staged and sequenced exactly as they will be needed on the assembly or production line.
