Varsity Logistics, Inc. has teamed up with New Generation Software Inc. (NGS) to develop a new analytics and business-intelligence module for the shipping and transportation sector. ShipView Plus will be offered with Varsity's ShipSoft shipping execution and transportation-management software for the IBM I and System I platforms. Pre-sale versions are being implemented by pilot customers, with general availability of ShipView Plus, Release 1.0 expected in mid-summer. The tool will help users to control skyrocketing shipping costs, the companies said. Featuring a suite of dashboards and analytic query and reporting capabilities, the module draws on NGS's business intelligence technology to access key information, processed with Varsity's ShipSoft application for multi-carrier, multimodal transportation-management system for parcels and freight. Developed entirely with NGS's business-intelligence technology, the new module enhances the presentation of DB2 data through the use of NGS's query and reporting tools, plus Adobe Flash and Microsoft Office software. It includes a Web portal, business-performance dashboards, multi-dimensional models, Excel spreadsheets and reports, all built over the ShipSoft database on the System I. ShipView Plus offers information about the cost and volume of shipments by carrier, distribution center and geography.
