Cognex Equips Barcode Readers With Real-Time Monitoring

Cognex Corp. has developed a new performance-monitoring system for its DataMan line of barcode readers.
Cognex Explorer Real Time Monitoring (RTM) incorporates a scalable architecture, Web-based performance statistics interface and Cognex vision technology. It equips facility managers with data that removes system defects and optimizes processes. Cognex Explorer RTM monitors read rates, evaluates images from packages that were not read, and classifies those images to help improve equipment efficiency. It draws on Datamanís image-based barcode-reading capabilities in such industries as logistics, automotive, pharmaceuticals and food and beverage. The server-based product connects to a network of Dataman readers and regularly pulls read-rate information as well as images from packages. When a process error results in a package with an unread barcode, images are sent to RTM, which automatically evaluates and categorizes each one. The data is then accessible for future viewing through any device with a Web browser.
