By: Environmental Leader July 14, 2014
Field to Market launched an agricultural supply chain program for U.S. commodity crops.
The sustainable agriculture alliance, whose members include Cargill, General Mills, Kellogg, Monsanto, Coca-Cola Company, World Wildlife Fund and Walmart, says the Field to Market metrics and benchmarks will measure sustainability improvement in corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, rice, potatoes and other crops related to seven sustainability indicators: land use, soil conservation, soil carbon, irrigated water use, water quality, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
Additionally, the new program will focus on promoting continuous improvement at the field and landscape level and enabling supply chain sourcing claims, according to Field to Market representatives.
