Administration Export-Reform Plan Gains Support of AAEI

The American Association of Exporters and Importers (AAEI) says it supports the Obama Administration's export reform plan, which envisions a single export-control list, a single licensing agency, a single enforcement coordination agency and a single information technology system.

"The international trade community is very interested in the efficiencies that would be truly realized with the administration's reforms," says AAEI president and CEO Marianne Rowden. "We think streamlining the system is critical to help small-medium size enterprises export goods and technology."

Rowden adds, "But we are eager to see which existing agency will be charged with these responsibilities or whether there will be an entirely new agency formed to handle export licensing."

Use of a single licensing agency should ensure export decisions are consistent and reduce exporters' confusion over where and how to to submit export license applications.

AAEI plans to develop a proposed flowchart for the export side of the International Trade Data System (ITDS), which it hopes will serve as the single window for all federal agency trade data. ITDS could function as the single information technology system envisioned in the administration's export reform plan.
