Aras Teams Up with Actify to Embed Visualization Tool in PLM Software

Aras, a provider of Microsoft-based, open-source software for business, has entered into a technology partnership with Actify, Inc., a vendor of applications for product data collaboration. The deal provides for the embedding of Actify's SpinFire visualization products into every download of Aras's product-lifecycle management (PLM) suite. The result, said the partners, is seamless 3D and 2D file translation, publishing and distribution capabilities. Actify's SpinFire technology is designed to enable access, communication, distribution and re-use of various 3D and 2D computer-aided design (CAD) file formats throughout the supply chain. SpinFire permits collaboration on all major CAD formats, including CATIA, SolidWorks, Inventory, AutoCAD, NX and Solid Edge. Embedding SpinFire in Aras gives companies a means of streamlining processes where secure access to viewing CAD files is necessary, such as collaborating on product designs with international suppliers and outsourced manufacturers, according to Actify chief executive officer David Opsahl.
