Average Price of Used Class 8 Trucks Better Than Expected, Study Shows

Used truck dealers continue to characterize business as "good" or even better than expected, although maybe not quite as strong as they had hoped, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.

"The average selling price of total reported Class 8 trucks continues to hold up better than expected," said Steve Tam, vice president of the commercial vehicle sector with ACT. "For the first nine months this year, prices were down only 3 percent, relative to the same period in 2012. Earlier expectations were for price declines of between 5 percent and 10 percent," he added.

The report from ACT provides data on the average used price for the top-selling Class 8 model for each of the major truck OEMs - Freightliner (Daimler); Kenworth and Peterbilt (Paccar); International (Navistar); and Volvo and Mack (Volvo). Subscription information on the full report is available on the ACT Research web site.

ACT publishes new- and used-commercial-vehicle industry data, market analysis and forecasting services for the North American market, as well as the U.S. tractor-trailer market and the China commercial vehicle market.
