Axxom Offers Software for Optimizing Truck Fleet Composition

Axxom Software AG has developed an application for calculating the optimal composition of a truck fleet. ORion-PI Fleet Planning is designed for logistics service providers, retailers and industrial companies. It allows for calculations based on the delivery data of a representative period, including information on the order structure, product range, geographical distribution of the customer base, delivery frequency and delivery quantities. The software uses the data to develop an optimized strategic routing plan, and to determine the best composition of the truck fleet to serve those routes. The tool considers all relevant cost factors, including those related to truck operation, drivers and fixed costs. It also figures in constraints in storage space and load capacities for the relevant truck types, as well as average useful life of the vehicles, seasonal impacts on transport volumes, service level requirements and loading and unloading times. The use of rental vehicles and third-party service providers can also be integrated into the calculation. Simulation options allow the user to evaluate the effects of changing external framework conditions, such as diesel price increases and new legal requirements.
