Crowley Adds Flat-Deck Barge to Puerto Rico Service

Crowley Liner Services has added a flat-deck barge to its Puerto Rico service.

The craft is capable of carrying up to 400 loads. Since mid-December of 2014, Crowley has added approximately 780 loads of weekly carrying capacity to the service. In January, it began speeding up its vessels, which increased its frequency of service and weekly cargo capacity by 250 loads. It added another 100 loads with the modification of barge layouts to optimize the stow factor. In addition, Crowley has begun placing into service more than 6,500 pieces of new cargo-handling equipment, including 40-, 45- and 48-foot high-cube containers, 20-foot ISO tanks and a variety of fixed and slider chassis. The carrier said it is currently building two new liquefied natural gas-powered containerships to be deployed in the Puerto Rico trade in 2017.
