Dassault Systemes Launches PLM Capability for Small, Midsized Manufacturers

Dassault Systemes, a vendor of product lifecycle management (PLM) software, has created Delmia PLM Express. The set of digital manufacturing applications is designed especially for small and mid-sized companies, such as parts suppliers, engineering firms and tooling providers. The product is intended for companies that require an entry-level PLM system for manufacturing, Dassault said. Delmia PLM Express is being offered in five components: Resource Planning, with capabilities for modeling in 3D and validating tooling and manufacturing workcells in the virtual world; Robotics, with comprehensive simulation and offline programming capabilities, which include dedicated functionality for arc- and spot-welding applications; Ergonomics, with the capability to build kinematic human models and teach human tasks, simulate processes and optimize the human work space; Process Planning, with assembly process planning, validation and simulation tools, and assembly animation and dynamic authoring for planners and design engineers; and Controls, with Smart Device Builder capabilities to help engineers create the mechanical, kinematical and logical behavior of devices, which can then be used to validate relevant programs in a virtual environment.
