DB Schenker Logistics Opens New HQ, Airfreight Hub at Heathrow

Schenker Limited, the U.K.-based arm of DB Schenker Logistics, has opened a new headquarters facility and airfreight hub at London's Heathrow Airport.

The operation was built in conjunction with Segro, a European developer and owner of industrial space. The facility, which will serve as Schenker's main airfreight hub for the U.K., covers 9,900 square meters. The office was constructed as a "green" building, designed to produce 25-percent lower carbon dioxide emissions than standard structures. It includes low- and zero-carbon air-source pumps, both for office cooling and warehouse under-floor heating. Other features include rainwater harvesting, a heat-recovery ventilation system and both passive infrared and photoelectric lighting controls. DB Schenker said it expects to cut specific CO2 emissions by 20 percent over 2006 levels by 2020.
