DB Schenker Ups Combined Transport Capacity Between Italy, Poland

DB Schenker Logistics is offering new combined-transport capacity between Italy and Poland on the Verona-Ostrava route. The company is providing an initial 12 semi-trailers on the route. The first trains departed in mid-January. For the time being, DB Schenker is offering three round trips per week. Operators of the transports include Cemat, Kombiverkehr and Bohemiakombi. DB Schenker has allocated 12 of the 28 available spaces for its own trailers. The company said it expects to load some 3,600 trailers a year on the route, in Poland, the Czech Republic and Italy. Block trains are formed at Verona Quadrante Europa Terminal in Italy, then travel to Ostrava-Paskov Terminal on the Czech-Polish border, where they are handed over to the Polish national company, Schenker Sp. z.o.o. Nearly all of Poland can be served from the Ostrava-Paskov Terminal, DB Schenker said. Its German division, DB Schenker Rail Deutschland, is charge of purchasing traction between Verona and Ostrava-Paskov Terminal, while Schenker Italiana S.p.A. is responsible for onward carriage of the semi-trailers from Verona Quadrante Europa Terminal. The DB Schenker Logistics Intermodal Operating Center in Zurich has overall responsibility between the two terminals.
