DHL Expands Operations in Houston for Oil and Gas

DHL has expanded operations in Houston, with the opening of a new service center.

The $2.5m investment was driven primarily by heavy demand and international shipment growth from the region's oil and gas sector, DHL said. The new 28,000-square-foot facility can process more than 2,500 shipments per hour. It nearly doubles the local facility capacity of DHL Express in Houston, and allows for earlier delivery and later cutoff times for international importers and exporters. The increase in activity linked to the oil and gas industries has resulted in an uptick in emergency shipping of machinery parts and replacement tools, the company said. DHL Express operations in Houston include a service center north of the city in Humble, TX, an aircraft ramp at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and a U.S. Customer Finance Support Center. The new facility will be able to handle a variety of shipments, including international small parcels and palletized and container freight.
