DHL Launches Direct LCL Service From L.A. to China

DHL has launched a direct, less-than-containerload (LCL) service from Los Angeles to Xingang and Tianjin in China. The move enhances the company's offerings between North America and Northern China. Using Danmar Lines, the in-house carrier of DHL Global Forwarding, a weekly service will make it possible for shipments to arrive up to a week earlier, the company said. From Xingang-Tianjin, shipments can be further distributed within key areas of Northern China, including Beijing, Xi'an, Shijiazhuang, Qinhuangdao, Taiyuan, Datong and Baotou. U.S. exporters can now ship their goods directly to Northern China from Los Angeles, instead of routing them via Hong Kong. In the process, DHL said, they save seven to eight days of transit time. DHL's in-house system handles more than 2 million cubic meters of LCL freight annually, via 45,000 point pairs. DHL carries more than 97 percent of its total volumes in-house. DHL Global Forwarding has previously launched direct LCL services from the U.S. to Poland, Switzerland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Brazil and Chile.
