ESRI Issues Update of Routing, Scheduling App for Truck Fleet Management

ESRI has created version 9.3 of its ArcLogistics routing and scheduling software for truck fleets. The latest edition lets users send their optimized stops from the ArcLogistics desktop to ArcLogistics Navigator, a new in-vehicle navigation application. Drivers can receive door-to-door directions, along with the quickest or shortest route options, while honoring logistics-specific road attributes such as turn restrictions and vehicle speeds. ESRI said it plans to release ArcLogistics Navigator with Service Pack 1 of ArcLogistics 9.1. Existing users of ESRI software benefit because the new tool is built on the vendor's ArcGIS platform. ArcLogistics was designed as an ArcGIS Engine application, consuming Network Analyst solvers. Routing projects are stored in a geodatabase for virtually unlimited capacity, the company claimed. Users can export routing results as a network analysis for use in ArcGIS and ArcGIS Network Analyst. In the process, ArcLogistics functions as a data-collection point for the analysis of geographic information.
