Beginning in September, the frequency of the MEX service will be increased from 12 to 10 days, with the deployment of four multipurpose vessels. In addition, a fifth vessel will be deployed in the service in early 2016. The Grande class ships have a capacity of 1,000 cars or vans, 2,800 linear meters of rolling cargo and 700 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container space. Each is equipped with two cranes on the weather deck. The additional vessels will increase capacity in the MEX service by 35 percent, both for containers and rolling cargo, the carrier said. Launched in 2010, the service links the ports of Valencia, Marseilles, Genoa, Livorno and Salerno with Casablanca, Morocco; Dakar, Senegal; Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Lagos, Nigeria; Cotonou, Benin and Lome, Togo. Through its hub in Salerno, the service also offers connections between West Africa and other Mediterranean ports.
