Grimaldi Group Launches Direct Service Between Rome, North America

The Grimaldi Group is launching a new direct maritime service between Civitavecchia, 50 kilometers north of Rome, and the North American ports of Baltimore, Md., and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

According to the carrier, the new link represents the first direct and regular service between the Mediterranean and North America for the roll-on/roll-off sector. It involves four vessels with total loading capacity of 25,000 cars. The port rotation is Gemlik, Turkey; Bar, Montenegro; Civitavecchia; Baltimore; Halifax and Antwerp, Belgium. The service will support Fiat Chrysler Automobiles for the export of its new models produced in Southern Italy, the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade – the first Jeep to be manufactured outside U.S. borders. The Grimaldi Group operates a fleet of more than 100 ships, with a specialty in transportation of cars and ro/ro cargo.
