Home Appliance Maker Taps Menlo Worldwide to Distribute Consumer Products Throughout U.S. Midwest

BSH Home Appliance Corp., maker of consumer products under the Bosch name, has chosen Menlo Worldwide, LLC to design and run a regional distribution center, which will serve retailers throughout the midwestern U.S. Menlo already has a multi-client distribution center in Aurora, Ill., which was chosen for its central location and rapid ramp-up capability, the vendor said. The deal calls for Menlo to provide BSH with 30,000 square feet of warehouse space, along with a full menu of logistics-management services. Menlo will handle the inbound receipt, inspection and storage of BSH products. It will manage all bulk-rack and shelf space at the security-controlled site, performing inventory management and order processing. Menlo will then carry out order fulfillment for outbound orders destined for BSH Home Appliance retailers and distributors throughout the Midwest. Supporting those operations will be Menlo's information-technology systems for warehouse management, performance analysis and cost reporting. The new contract extends Menlo's relationship with BSH Home Appliances in the U.S. Menlo currently manages a similar operation for the company in New Jersey, covering 40,000 square feet. Patrick Franke, director of logistics with BSH, said the company places a high value on Lean principles, stressing continuous improvement and damage-free operations. BSH Home Appliances is a subsidiary of Germany's Bosch und Siemens Hausgerate GmbH, said to be the world's third-largest home-appliances manufacturer.
