Implementing Collaborative Managed Inventory for Shelf Level Visibility Drives Value

Challenge: A major drug chain retailer needed to reduce inventory by over 30% without increasing out-of-stocks. The OTC supplier was interested in increasing visibility on downstream sales & inventory performance, while improving SLAs, and planning for future retailer integration needs.

Solution: We implemented a Software as a Service solution that provided visibility to shelf and SKU level movement, while also connecting the supplier to over 12 retailers in less than 6 months.

Results: The retailer reduced OOS by over 35%, while improving visibility and tracking of new product introductions. Additional value gained included a 32% reduction in excess inventory on hand, and in-stock service level increased from 97.9% to 99.3%. The supplier grew sales opportunities through improved service stock levels, with fast & easy onboarding of over 12 VMI retailers. Moreover, they increased turns and responsiveness to promotional activity, with less damaged and returned inventory. Finally, the supplier completely replaced software, saving nearly $1 million.
