Lufthansa Plans Tel Aviv Service; New Frankfurt Logistics Center

Lufthansa Cargo is about to launch its first all-freighter service to Israel.

Beginning Oct. 28, the airline will link Tel Aviv with its Frankfurt, Germany hub. The MD-11 freighter service will depart in the evening on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and in the late morning on Fridays. The return flight will be operated on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays via Istanbul. Friday is the only day on which a non-stop service from Tel Aviv to Frankfurt will be offered, Lufthansa said. This winter, in addition to its own freighter flights, the carrier will join with Austrian Airlines to offer 37 flights a week to hubs at Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna, as well as to Dusseldorf and Berlin. The airline Swiss will operate 14 flights a week from Tel Aviv to Zurich. In another company development, Lufthansa has announced plans to build a new logistics center at Frankfurt Airport. Replacing the existing Lufthansa Cargo Center, which is more than 30 years old, the new facility is due to begin construction in 2014 and commence operations in 2018. Through modern technological infrastructure, the center will guarantee faster turnaround times for shipments and "dramatically" improve customer service, Lufthansa Cargo said.
