NIT League Offers Compliance Program for 10+2 Filings

The National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) is offering its members a new program to help them comply with the Importer Security Filing (ISF) requirements of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. ISF, also known as the 10+2 Rule, imposes additional filing requirements on U.S. importers and carriers. The program officially took effect in 2009, but the agency delayed the levying of fines of up to $5,000 per violation, along with the possibility of issuing "do not load" orders and seizing non-compliant import cargoes, until January 26 of this year. NITL members now have the opportunity to contract with a licensed U.S. customs broker, ABS Consulting, which has more than 30 years of experience in international and domestic logistics. Led by Albert Saphir, ABS will provide league members with a range of services at a discount, to facilitate their compliance with 10+2. They may choose from among three service options following a free consultation. In each program, the objective is to assist the ocean importer in identifying the correct data elements that must be included in the ISF, NITL said.
