Schneider Launches Cross-Border Customs Service; Adds Montreal Lane

Schneider Intermodal has created a new program for streamlining customs clearance for select shipments crossing the U.S.-Mexico border by rail.

Working with Servicio Nacional de Sandidad, Inocuidad Agroalimentaria (Senascia), Mexico's equivalent of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Schneider can now move peat moss, pet food, soy bean flour and cream substitutes with inspections in Mexico instead of at the border. The initial four commodities are part of a pilot program for easing border crossings. Additional commodities are expected to be added when the pilot concludes, Schneider said. Effective immediately, the service is available at the Puerto Mexico (Toluca) intermodal terminal. In another company development, Schneider has added a cross-border intermodal lane via Montreal. The service to markets in Florida and Georgia, which eliminates the Great Lakes reroute, draws on the carrier’s Montreal dray driver base and ramp operations through the CSX rail network. Schneider is a provider of truckload, intermodal and logistics services.
