Three Container Lines Join in India-American Express Service

Three shipping lines--APL, CMA CGM, and Hapag-Lloyd AG--will extend their joint Indian Subcontinent Service, known as Indamex, further down the U.S. East Coast to include the Port of Savannah, Ga. The weekly express service, originating in Colombo, Sri Lanka, will make its first call at Savannah on May 11. Savannah becomes the fourth U.S. port of call for the Indamex Service, joining New York, Norfolk and Charleston. The enhancement is in response to growing volumes of high-value products destined for the U.S. East Coast via the Suez Canal, the lines said. In addition to Savannah, Indamex will make regularly scheduled stops at Damietta, Egypt on its voyage to the U.S. through the Suez Canal. APL, Hapag-Lloyd and CMA CGM operate seven vessels in the service, with capacity ranging between 3,800 and 4,500 twenty-foot equivalent units. The rotation is Colombo, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Damietta, New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Port Said and back to Colombo.
