U.S. Air Force Embraces Major Cultural Change

The U.S. Air Force has undertaken a massive overhaul of its logistics processes. The campaign known as Expeditionary Logistics for the 21st Century, or eLog21, covers every aspect of the supply chain, from procurement to repair and product lifecycle management. The goal was to develop one cohesive strategy for effecting both technological and organizational change. Mike Morgan of Morgan Borszcz Consulting and Greg Grehowic of Booz-Allen Hamilton talk about the biggest challenges that the Air Force has faced in implementing this ambitious program. They discuss how an organization of such massive size and scope can secure the cooperation of all individuals and departments with supply-chain responsibilities. And they reveal some of the long-term benefits that the Air Force hopes to derive from the effort. This case study was a finalist in the 2008 Supply Chain Innovation Award competition, co-sponsored by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and Global Logistics & Supply Chain Strategies.
