U.S. Finds August Imports Up Slightly Over Same Time Last Year

There was a slight uptick in global trade activity in August, according to Panjiva, a trade information management services firm.  Specifically:

• The number of waterborne shipments coming into the U.S. experienced a 4-percent month-over-month increase from July to August.   Last year, the month-over-month increase was 3 percent, and, in 2008, July-to-August was essentially flat.

• There was a 1-percent increase in the number of global manufacturers shipping to the U.S. market.

• There was a 0.2-percent increase in the number of U.S. companies receiving waterborne shipments from global manufacturers.
