VeriTainer Teams With Lawrence Livermore Lab on Cargo Scanning

The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has entered into a research and development agreement with VeriTainer Corp. The $4m initiative is aimed at enhancing VeriTainer's crane-mounted cargo-scanning technology. The three-and-a-half-year effort involves scientists and engineers from both sides, working to enhance both gamma and neuron-detection sensitivity of the scanning equipment. The system has been in operation for four years, in field tests at three ports and five marine terminals. In addition, Lawrence Livermore Lab will use the platform to create a counter-terrorism system. VeriTainer is a specialist in crane-based radiation-detection technology for the scanning of shipping containers. Its technology enables the scanning of 100 percent of containers without disrupting the flow of commerce, the company claimed. The Lawrence Livermore Lab operates under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.
