Verizon Creates Secure QR Code Login Capability

Verizon Enterprise Solutions has developed new secure QR code login capability via the user’s smartphone.

Manufacturers and other companies can use the feature as an alternative to two-factor authentication when allowing vendors and partners to securely access their systems. Users will be able to enroll for a Verizon Universal ID directly from a participating Web page. After registering, they can download to their smartphones a mobile app that scans a dynamically generated QR code on the login page. With user’s identify confirmed, they are authenticated to the website. The QR code login can be used alone, as a “scan and go,” or combined with a PIN number or password for transactions that require stronger security. Verizon’s Universal Identity Services provide multifactor authentication delivered from the cloud, offering three levels of identity strength.
