Singapore is set to play host to the PowerLogistics Asia 2014 exhibition and conference. The event, which will take place for the third time on November 18 and 10, 2014 in the Lion City’s Suntec Exhibition Center  will bring together the heavy transport and lifting industry from across the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) region delivering a platform for discussions, networking and new business.

The event’s organizers promise that companies within the engineering procurement and construction sector, serving the oil and gas, energy, heavy engineering and mining industries will be able to meet and talk with project logistics service providers to discuss the safe and efficient movement of heavy, over dimensional and modular equipment.

Logistics hub

Event general manager Felix Schrick said: “We chose Singapore as it is the major regional logistics hub for the oil and gas, heavy engineering, petrochemical, maritime and offshore supply industries. It also serves as an important project cargo transshipment centre for Southeast Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, Far East and Australia. “Among the participants, we already have many of the sector’s big brands participating, on both sides of the supply chain, including Larsen & Toubro, Weatherford, Mammoet, Jumbo Shipping, SAL Heavy Lift, Panalpina and JAS Forwarding.” Schrick explained that the main purpose of the exhibition is to help generate partnerships between the participants and the heavy transport service providers that will be exhibiting. “Picking the right partner can be tricky when it comes to working in countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos and Myanmar,” said Schrick, adding that PowerLogistics Asia 2014 will also be a great platform for European, African and American project forwarders to meet partners based in ASEAN countries.

Myanmar logistics

Recently Myanmar has attracted much attention from the oil, gas and mining industries and there is a huge demand for project logistics services and equipment providers in this region. Consequently Myanmar’s logistics needs will be a subject for discussion at the PowerLogistics Asia 2014 Conference. Procurement and supply chain professionals within the oil and gas, heavy engineering, power and mining industries have been invited to attend PowerLogistics Asia 2014; and the organisers make it clear that this is not an event for general freight forwarders. Schrick said that it will focus on the heavy lift and transport of project cargoes. The event will also include a full program featuring speakers from the industrial side such as Larsen & Toubro, Weatherford, and others; plus heavy lift and transport experts who will be highlighting industry specific issues.

Heavy lift technical training seminar

Within the event is a separate heavy transport and lifting course led by Gert Vos, the founder of Heavy Transport Training and Consultancy (HTTC), who has over 20 years’ experience of heavy transport and

project forwarding. Areas the technical seminar will cover include:

* Lifting – with an overview of the various crane types and other equipment, and technical calculations; lift planning and stability issues; plus a separate session on the use of gantry and strand jacks, hydraulic lifting gantries; skidding and jacking techniques.
