Solution: Landstar implemented the following: • Reduced OEM costs, by leveling the daily shipments and not procuring truck capacity in the spot market. • Increased service levels by a combination of Landstar BCOs and 3rd party carriers. • Set up a new, more systematic approach for loading trucks. This process improvement enabled the scheduling of trucks based on production forecasts, thereby improving material flow and ultimately increasing load efficiency. • Monitored performance via the Landstar mobile app “Landstar Connect”. The app allows for updating load status via smart phones, giving the customer up-to-the-minute visibility.
Results: Within ten days, Landstar created a new workflow for the frames and their transport. Landstar is moving approximately 250 loads per day and saving the OEM a substantial amount of time and money in the process.
