Optessa Inc. has debuted Optessa MLS 4.2, the newest version of the vendor's software for multi-line schedule. The update allows for the modeling and scheduling of multiple lines in a plant at different tiers, all through a single application of the system. It is built around a distributed architecture for better scalability, load-balancing and faster computation to solve large scheduling problems, Optessa said. The application's users include large automakers, who deploy it to optimize and balance assembly planning, sequencing and scheduling across all product lines and constraints. Optessa MLS provides an optimized schedule for each part and model months in advance, the vendor said. It uses stochastic search techniques to find a near-optimal schedule within a matter of minutes. Plant staff can add new rules and constraints, and schedules can be rapidly regenerated with new inputs rather than starting from scratch. The Web-based application can be implemented in any environment in a little as 12 weeks, according to Optessa, and contains built-in capabilities to simplify integration with third-party scheduling, supply-chain management and enterprise resource planning systems. New enhancements include the ability to model in-plant feeder lines or sub-lines through MLS system configurations. In addition, a new menu structure and workflow-based design make it easier for plant staff to create new scenarios, access existing ones, modify constraints and incorporate constraint data from third-party systems.
