Most ecommerce companies are seeing bigger than ever sales and customers demanding that their orders are shipped quickly, inexpensively, and accurately.
To help them manage this, retailers increasingly turn to 3PLs and other intermediaries to join their omnichannel fulfillment strategy.
This shift in logistics has forced many 3PLs to pivot from their more traditional services to add parcel shipment to their offerings.
3PLs and other intermediaries are seeing success from this move. As noted in the “Third-Party Logistics Benchmark Report,” 3PLs linked to ecommerce fulfillment have seen 79% growth, and warehouses that also offered omnichannel fulfillment were 271% more likely to be fast growers.
Of course, there is a difference between shipping freight and shipping parcels. Having the right strategy and systems in place is essential for 3PLs looking to move their business — or move along their business further — into the retail parcel channel.
