AFRICA - North American EXPORT Service Highlights

North America to East, West and South Africa

Maersk Line's single-network service package encompasses the African coasts
and is second to none in terms of size and scope. Our dedicated and expansive
Africa feeder system provides in-depth coverage and consistent service for
reliable reach to key Africa markets.

East Africa 

• Service to East Africa is routed on the MECL1, MECL2 and WestMed from the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts. Direct U.S. flag service to Djibouti from Houston and Norfolk is available on alternating weeks.
• Maersk Line also utilizes the Transpacific network to provide all-water service to East Africa from the U.S. West Coast via transshipments in Asia.

West Africa

• Weekly service to West Africa from the U.S. East and West Coasts is provided by the MECL2 and WestMed services, with transshipment in Algeciras.
• The West Africa feeder network has nine convenient weekly services covering major market locations.
• All-water service to West Africa is delivered via the Transpacific service from Los Angeles with transshipment in Panama.
• Service to Lobito and Namibe, Angola is provided by the AMEX service with transshipment in Cape Town.
• Maersk Line delivers the most reliable, weekly, all-water export service to West Africa. Your cargo moves from main port hubs on our agile second leg services.

South Africa

• Our AMEX service is the only direct U.S. East Coast to South Africa service offered in the market today. Recent port rotation improvements will result in better export service delivery.
• All-water service from the U.S. West Coast is provided by Transpacific strings with transshipment in Shanghai to the Safari service.
• Service to the Indian Ocean Islands - including Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar and Reunion - is provided by transshipment in Salalah from MECL1, MECL2 and WestMed.

North Africa

• Exports to North Africa move on the Mediterranean service. Please refer to that section

• Your East Africa imports move quickly via feeder to main port hub Jebel Ali for transshipment on the MECL1, MECL2 and WestMed to the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts.

West Africa

• The West Africa service portfolio to North America uses the MECL2 and WestMed services via our transship hub in Algeciras. An extensive West Africa network of nine convenient weekly services covers all major West African ports.
• This combination of our weekly linehaul strings and revised feeder service network enables us to avoid port congestion and other service disruptions common to this route.

South Africa

• South Africa imports move on our reliable, weekly and fixed-day AMEX service from Port Elizabeth, Durban, and Cape Town to the U.S. East Coast ports of Newark, Baltimore, Norfolk and Charleston. There is also a port call in Freeport, Bahamas.
• AMEX Wednesday arrival in Newark allows cargo availability before the weekend.
• Our Indian Ocean Island feeder service provides coverage from Madagascar and South Eastern Africa to Salalah for onward connections to the U.S. East Coast on the MECL1 and MECL2 services.

North Africa

• Shipments from North Africa are serviced via the Mediterranean. For detailed information, please refer to the Mediterranean Service section.
