A recent study sponsored by Oracle, which highlights the vast transformation that sustainable business practices are unleashing on worldwide supply chains, finds that supply chain professionals in the U.K. are confident in their current sustainability policies. However, global experts on sustainable supply and procurement models question whether they are comprehensive and effective enough with the suggestion that the industry is 'cherry-picking' initiatives.
The report recognizes the difficulty in identifying the limits of responsibility and control of supply chain operations, as companies could be counting processes in a never-ending chain. For instance, where does measurement of the carbon footprint in food production end? Should assessment include the emissions produced making the machines that farm the crop?
