Cross-Docking on Rise, as Companies Cut Transportation Costs and Warehouse Space
Global Logistics & Supply Chain Strategies | July 10, 2008
The use of cross-docking strategies is on the rise, according to a new white paper from Saddle Creek Corp. In a survey of more than 500 industry executives, the report finds that two-thirds are either cross-docking or planning to do so in the near future. Of those who currently engage in the practice, about half have considered cross-docking for more of their total SKU throughput. At the same, a wider variety of goods are being regularly cross-docked, including more perishable, temperature-controlled, high-value and high-security items, Saddle Creek said.
