OSIsoft, a vendor of business infrastructure software, has added two products to its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Smart Grid initiatives. The company's PI Smart Connectors link AMI systems to its PI System, to unify, validate, rationalize, store and synchronize metering data at speeds necessary to support next-generation applications for grid management. The PI System acts as a central meter data hub, able to store high-fidelity information from tens of millions of meters, received at hundreds of thousands of events per second, according to OSIsoft. Real-time analysis shapes that data into useable information for business applications presented as services, via the vendor's second new product, PI Business Gateways. The prime user will be SAP's back-office applications for customer support and asset management. Last year, OSIsoft joined the SAP AMI Lighthouse Council, a consortium of vendors and utilities formed to address business processes and use cases in support of AMI, to create the SAP for Utilities application. OSIsoft said it will also offer meter data unification and synchronization capability as part of the Business Gateway.
