Apriso, a vendor of software for manufacturing operations, has created what it claims is the first large-scale warehouse-management system (WMS) specifically built for manufacturers. FlexNet Warehouse Management for Manufacturers integrates warehouse operations with production processes, with an eye toward eliminating idle inventory, providing complete traceability across production and the supply chain, boosting quality and supporting Lean initiatives for material flow. Drawing on the features of FlexNet's Global Manufacturing Suite, the WMS can be deployed locally at warehouses while being managed globally. It was developed as a module of the FlexNet Operations Execution System. Using the software, manufacturers can reduce inventory and work in progress, achieve dock-to-dock traceability and genealogy, address changes in customer demands, and decrease the cost of quality and Six Sigma efforts through improved sampling and inspection processes, Apriso said.
