Work has begun on a 296,000 square-foot distribution facility at the Southern California Logistics Centre (SCLC) in Victorville, Calif. Covering more than 17 acres, the building will be the first ever logistics-oriented facility developed at SCLC, providing a range of warehouse-management and logistics-fulfillment services. It is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2008. The project is being built by Stirling Capital Investments, a joint venture between Stirling Enterprises and DCT Industrial Trust Inc. Stirling Capital has entered into a co-marketing agreement with Cal Cartage, a third-party logistics provider which manages some 13 facilities in California, Chicago, Georgia and Mexico. The Class A industrial building will feature contemporary tilt-up concrete and a large number of trailer parking spaces, Stirling said. It will capitalize on its location in the California High Desert, considered an alternative for distribution and warehousing companies to higher-priced locations elsewhere in the Inland Empire. The building is the fourth to begin construction this year under the aegis of Stirling Capital, which will seek LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the Victorville facility.
