Evri, one of the U.K.’s biggest parcel delivery companies, announced it had begun rolling out its e-cargo bikes in several cities across the country as part of the organization’s commitment to reach net-zero direct and indirect carbon emissions by 2035. The rollout initiative comes on the heels of a recent promise by Evri to triple its e-cargo bike parcel deliveries to 500,000 fulfilled orders over the next 12 months.

Zoomo, an international electric bike retailer, agreed to partner with the business and provide Evri with 15 electric-assisted vehicles (EAV) cargo bikes for its Wimbledon hub. Zoomo has also said it will offer a maintenance guarantee on the bikes as well as specialized fleet management software for the EAV bicycles. Prior to the partnership, Evri had been using e-cargo bikes in Bristol, Edinburgh and Manchester.

Zoomo’s EAV bikes can handle up to 375 lbs. of cargo, making them a viable potential replacement for van deliveries, Evri said in a statement.

“Research shows that e-cargo bikes deliver goods 60% faster than vans in city centers while reducing carbon emissions by 90% compared to diesel vans and one-third compared to electric vans,” said Nancy Hobhouse, the head of ESG for Evri. “Partnerships like this are an important step forward as we continue to trial alternative fuels and innovative ways of delivering in the final mile.”
