Just what does it mean when a warehouse robot is said to be “socially intelligent”?

What does the “A” in “AI” actually mean? We can engage in endless debate over the definition of “intelligence,” when the word is applied to a technology that seems to be growing closer and closer to simulating the qualities of the human brain. Turns out, though, that there are multiple types of intelligence, both among humans and machines. There’s the notion of “social intelligence,” which describes a way in in which AI-equipped robots function in an environment also populated by humans. That’s the topic of our discussion on this episode with Brian Hartzband, president of U.S. operations at GMEX Robotics Corporation. His company recently announced its intention to acquire an interest in MediaMeta.ai, an AI company engaged in human behavioral modeling — include the trait of social intelligence. He defines the term, and discusses why he views it as essential to the performance and future development of commercial robots. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
