Weber Distribution, a provider of third-party logistics and supply chain management services, has launched a new program known as Consolidated Express Service. The offering gives customers set delivery times, while providing less-than-truckload expedited services at full-truckload rates. The company introduced a similar express consolidation program for confectionary customers several years ago. It is now expanding the effort to target customers in the food and beverage, health and beauty, and pharmaceutical sectors. Weber is consolidating LTL orders of multiple customers with a common destination, through alliances with grocery and retail distribution centers, big-box retailers and institutional food-service docks. The company said it was seeking a way to save customers money while reducing fuel usage for environmental reasons. By working with consignees to establish pre-existing appointment times, it can consolidate customers' freight and deliver the order to one location. Weber is also offering a "Preferred Status" service at the consignee's dock. The Consolidated Express Service program links directly to Weber's transportation management system, to ensure real-time updates of shipments once they arrive at destination.
