The Customs and Border Protection's Commercial Operations Advisory Committee will meet in teleconference on July 15 to vote on the Department of Homeland Security's National Strategy for Global Supply Chain Security.
Members of COAC include importers, carriers, customs brokers and representatives of port authorities and other elements of the international commercial supply chain.
DHS officials called the latest plan a "risk informed strategy" that puts heavy emphasis on the principle that the international supply chain has the resilience to resume the flow of goods after a terrorist attack.
The new document will supersede a 2007 supply chain security strategy, and will be a comprehensive guide for the federal government's response and recovery from a terrorist attack. The previous strategy was limited to Customs and Border Protection's role. The new strategy encompasses all agencies in DHS as well as the U.S. departments of Agriculture, Justice, Commerce and Defense.
