Blue Bell Creameries is deploying ClearOrbit's Gemini mobile software solution for Oracle Process Manufacturing (OPM) to automate data collection and improve production lot control and traceability. ClearOrbit, Austin, Tex., says that Blue Bell, one of the country's oldest ice cream manufacturers, selected Gemini to improve the accuracy, timeliness, visibility, and control of data throughout the company's high-volume production and distribution centers across the Southeast.
With Gemini for OPM, Blue Bell employees will now use mobile RF scanners to record key transactions, such as receiving, inventory movements and transfers, adjustments, batch inputs/outputs and returns, directly on the shop floor. By capturing data from more than 2,000 SKUs in real time at the point of origin, Gemini will "dramatically and immediately" increase data quality and visibility throughout the company's multiple facilities, the software developer says.

ClearOrbit says that Gemini for OPM leverages ERP investments by integrating directly to the Oracle data model. This approach leverages the setups, tolerances and profiles already defined in Blue Bell's Oracle deployment, minimizing implementation, training, and ongoing support costs.
