Air Cargo: Page 49
E-Retailers Say They Continue to Struggle With Cross-Border Demand
E-commerce has been the dominant force for change in the air cargo logistics business for the last several years, but online retailers, forwarders, carriers and integrators say they are still struggling with ways to keep up with the intense demand from international customers to deliver them the world instantly. This was the main theme of the plenary session, "Cross-border E-Commerce: Who Will Rule the Game?", at last week's Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC) in Hong Kong.
Airbus Hopes to Deliver Up to 80 A350 Aircraft in 2017
Airbus tentatively aims to deliver as many as 80 A350 jetliners in 2017, two sources familiar with the plans have said. The target marks a new stage in ambitious plans to raise output of the company's newest long-haul jet to 10 a month in 2018, but depends mainly on how successful suppliers will be in curbing delays in cabin equipment.
Judge Orders Striking Cargo Pilots Back to Work: 'Imagine Christmas Without Amazon!'
A federal judge last week ordered pilots for a cargo airline that delivers Amazon packages to go back to work. The judge in Cincinnati said it was in the public's interest to end the strike because holiday shoppers expect to receive their packages on time.
Pessimistic Forecasts: Stifel Logistics Confidence Index Declines Further
The Stifel Logistics Confidence Index - which measure logistics industry outlook - has reached its 14 consecutive months of negative confidence, with the numbers suggesting this will continue into 2017. As reflected by the performance of the Index, global trade remains at a low ebb, as it has for some time.
Emirates Says Rolls-Royce's A380 Engines Not Up to Standard

UPS to Add Four Weekly Flights to San Bernardino During 2016 Peak
UPS said it will add four weekly flights to San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) during its peak-season rush to accommodate a seasonal surge in package shipments, which grows each year as e-commerce changes the logistics side of Christmas shopping. The Atlanta-based integrator will operate 757 freighters from SBD to its Louisville, Kentucky, hub this December.
European Parliament Clears Drone Regulations for Takeoff
Regulations to protect people from falling drones moved a little closer to takeoff at the European Parliament. Ensuring drone safety took on a new urgency last week, with GoPro's recall of its Karma drone after unexplained mid-air power failures caused a number of them to drop out of the sky.
Freightos Launches Freight Rate Calculator for Real-Time Market Access
Logistics technology company Freightos has announced the launch of its freight rate calculator, a tool that taps into international market rates to offer real-time FCL, LCL, air and trucking door-to-door freight estimates. The calculator is currently being launched as a public beta, Freightos says.

IAG Cargo Launches New Routes to North America
IAG Cargo has announced the launch of two new London Gatwick routes to North America - bringing the total number of IAG Cargo-operated U.S. gateways to 25 in Summer 2017. A Fort Lauderdale service is due to launch in March 2017 and will operate four times a week, and an Oakland flight will also launch in March 2017 on a three-per-week basis.
Top 40 Cargo Airports Provide Glimpses of Future Growth
Sometimes all it takes is a shift in strategy from a single carrier to make an impact on airport freight traffic. Qatar Airways Cargo, for instance, has been ramping up its airfreight routes for the last couple of years, seeking more high-value cargo, such as pharmaceuticals, and forming joint ventures with other airlines, such as IAG. Qatar achieved such growth via "fleet and network expansion, innovation in our technology, creative interline agreements and by deploying capacity on expanding or untapped markets," said Ulrich Ogiermann, the carrier's chief cargo officer.
