Parcel Traffic Ambitions Overcome European Borders, Logistics Experts Report
Britain's vote for the "Brexit" may have dealt a blow to the European Union, but the vision of an integrated European parcel network is very much alive, logistics experts say, thanks to the Deutsche Post DHL Group (DP-DHL). The German postal, express and logistics giant is acquiring a strong presence in the British market with the takeover of UK Mail, the second-largest mail provider in the United Kingdom.
XYpper Launches 'Uber-Like' Technology for Trucking Industry
Transportation software company XYpper, Inc. has launched an app- and web-based system that works similarly to Uber and other "sharing economy" apps - by directly connecting individuals who have a need with someone who can perform a service. In XYpper's case, the app connects freight brokers who have loads that need to be delivered with truckers who are either in their geographical area or on their way.
DHL Expands Operations in Southern California
DHL has expanded its footprint in Southern California to accommodate a growing demand for its global shipping services, the logistics company announced. The new 66,730-square-foot service center in Santa Ana adds more than 27,000 square feet to the company's previous facility in Irvine, and reflects an increase in shipment volumes that DHL is handling.

Why Retail Today Is About Data and Experiences
If retail advisor Doug Stephens is to be believed, the term "store" someday will be remembered as a relic of the Industrial Revolution as our culture and technology enable transactions virtually anywhere, thanks to socially integrated buy buttons, mobile commerce and more. We've already seen a shift in the language of retail away from "stores" to "physical retail spaces," which Stephens told attendees at September's SAP Retail Forum is a better way to describe how retailers should think about their businesses as commerce channels proliferate.
Container Shipping Market Is Unpredictable, But Prices Are Climbing, Xeneta Reports
An in-depth analysis of Q3 container shipping costs revealed positive trends for the container carrier segment, according to Xeneta, a market intelligence company for containerized ocean freight. However, the market remains unpredictable, with the 'Hanjin Effect' ebbing away, Xeneta says.
South Korean Government to Fund Shipbuilding
South Korea's finance minister has announced the government plans to support orders of 250 or more vessels by 2020 to help local shipbuilders. The government plans to establish a state-backed ship financing company with an initial capital of 1 trillion won ($871.73m) to help improve the financial health of Korean shipping companies.
Stifel Logistics Confidence Index Reaches 13 Consecutive Months of Negative Outlook
The Stifel Logistics Confidence Index - which measure logistics industry outlook - remained below the neutral mark in October at 49.4, but once more noted a slight improvement against the previous month, according to global logistics researcher Transport Intelligence. In a sign that the bankruptcy of Hanjin Shipping has had little overall effect upon the container shipping industry, the October Sea Freight Confidence Index remained unchanged from September, at 49.0 points.
Jettainer, Lufthansa Developing 'Digital' Containers to Increase Transparency

Uber's Self-Driving Truck Makes First Commercial Delivery
The futurists of Silicon Valley may not have seen this one coming: The first commercial delivery made by a self-driving truck was 2,000 cases of Budweiser beer. Last week, Otto, the Uber-owned self-driving vehicle operation, announced the completion of its first commercial delivery, having delivered its beer load from Fort Collins, Colo., to Colorado Springs, a roughly 120-mile trip on Interstate 25.
