Epicor Software Corp. has introduced the Epicor Retail Green IT Initiative, designed to help retailers reduce their power and paper consumption associated with point-of-sale (POS) systems. The program involves onsite analysis by a team of Epicor consultants and business analysts specializing in green initiatives. The exercise includes energy consumption evaluation, review of current hardware and system configurations, recommended actions and areas of focus, and a return-on-investment analysis. The team then supports the retailer's execution of its recommendations to locations in the field. Potential operational adjustments include the tuning of system parameters to lower power consumption and paper use. Epicor designed the software that drives "smart hardware" platforms from NCR and IBM, deploying IBM's Remote Management Agent technology to achieve green benefits. Epicor sells business software to the manufacturing, distribution, retail, hospitality and services industries.
