Walmart says that it's planning to expand its drone delivery services to 100 additional stores across five metropolitan areas.

As part of its partnership with drone company Wing, the retail giant intends to bring drone deliveries to Houston, Tampa, Orlando, Atlanta and Charlotte by June of 2026, and will expand existing services in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Wing and Walmart first launched drone deliveries in Dallas-Fort Worth in fall 2023, with an average fulfillment time under 19 minutes, according to a June 5 release from Wing.

“This is real drone delivery at scale,” said Wing CEO Adam Woodworth. “People all around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex have made drone delivery part of their normal shopping habits over the past year. Now we’re excited to share this ultra-fast delivery experience with millions more people across many more U.S. cities."

To use the service, a customer confirms their precise delivery location after ordering items from Walmart's online store. The items are then packed into a specialized box at a local Walmart store, where a drone picks it up and flies roughly 65 miles an hour to its destination, where it lowers the package to the ground. Eligible products include fresh produce, household essentials and various snack foods.

Walmart previously scaled back its drone deliveries in 2024, when it ended the service in Utah, Arizona and Florida, in favor of focusing on remaining operations in Dallas-Fort Worth, Arkansas and Virginia. A year later, the retailer added drone deliveries to its app for DFW customers.
