Greatwide Logistics Services, a third-party logistics services provider, has acquired Overton Transportation. A former subsidiary of Sysco Corp., based in La Vergne, Tenn., Overton will be integrated under the Greatwide Freight brand. Greatwide picked up all of Overton's contracts, personnel and equipment, including 70 tractors, 100 trailers and 133 employees. The deal allows Greatwide to provide new temperature-controlled logistics services at the request of grocery customers, according to president and chief operating officer John Simone. Overton also enhances Greatwide's current one-way truckload offering, he said. Greatwide operates more than 4,000 tractors, in addition to serving as a 3PL for produce and other temperature-controlled products. Its services include managed transportation, dedicated and full-service brokerage, warehouse-based logistics and irregular route truckload.
