A group of 15 fashion and lifestyle companies are celebrating Earth Day with a commitment to end the sourcing of textile and packaging from ancient and endangered forests. 

Ancient and endangered forests are ones that haven't seen any industrial logging, and typically span a minimum of 123,500 acres. Those forests also are home to high concentrations of rare and endangered species, and can be found in Northern Canada, the Amazon Basin, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia and parts of Russia.

Environmental nonprofit Canopy is helping gather companies together for Earth Day as part of its "Pack4Good" initiative to preserve these crucial forests. As Canopy points out, "forests are the lungs of the planet." 

"They absorb carbon, mitigate the effects of climate change, provide habitat for an estimated 80% of the world’s terrestrial species, regulate water cycles, and are foundational to life on our planet," the nonprofit says. 

Participating companies include an array of lifestyle brands, including Kering, John Lewis & Partners, City Threads, and House of Hackney among others. As part of Pack4Good, they're also investing in low-carbon fiber alternatives for their products.
