A unit of GE's Equipment Services business, Rail Services, has introduced its TMHZ trailer management program for shippers to increase their access to privately owned intermodal trailers that can be used on any railroad throughout the United States.
"GE is dedicated to providing our customers with solutions that enable them to keep up with changing business needs," says Brigitte Lobstein, executive vice president of intermodal for Rail Services. "As the intermodal industry continues to evolve at a rapid pace, our customers need an alternative to railroad-controlled equipment," she says. "With approximately 120,000 intermodal trailers, chassis and containers under management, Rail Services can be a key resource for shippers. Our TMHZ program is designed to give shippers not just an asset, but freedom and flexibility in managing private trailers."
TMHZ builds on the success of GE's intermodal rental program, called TMPZ. Both programs are designed to provide customers with private trailer options and greater flexibility in use as well as best-in-class reservation systems.
Customers can obtain equipment under the new program subject to the Uniform Intermodal Interchange and Facilities Access Agreement (UIIA). The program includes 53-foot and 48-foot equipment that can be used for $17 and $14 a day, respectively, with no cost to sign up. Daily use charges are published in the UIIA TIP Addendum. Current locations for pick-up include Jacksonville, Fla.; Chicago; Cincinnati; Columbia, N.J.; and Los Angeles. Drop locations are strategically situated throughout the United States.
